Enjoy the Autumn Moon Festival This Month

We often share some of the latest upcoming events and festivals in New York City. And September brings one of the most fun cultural celebrations of all - the Autumn Moon Festival.

The Mid-Autumn Festival, also called Zhongqiu Jie (中秋节) in Chinese, the Moon Festival, or the Mooncake Festival, is one of China’s most celebrated holidays. It’s a holiday that typically means Chinese lanterns, colorful parades, family reunions, and traditional mooncakes. And there are festivals and events all around the world, including a host of ways to experience and enjoy the Autumn Moon Festival, right here in New York City. Here are just a few unique and fun ways to celebrate with the whole family.

The Mid-Autumn Moon Festival Walk

Take a leisurely stroll through Alley Pond Park, along the moonlit trails, for a romantic adventure or a family-fun night through colorful lanterns with unique riddles to solve. Meet a “rabbit ambassador” and bring your camera for stunning shots of the full moon. Children should all be accompanied by an adult, and registration is required in advance online. The walk begins at 7:00 PM.

Fall Family Festival

Celebrate the fall harvest and Mid-Autumn Moon holiday at the Fall Family Festival. Activities include art, sugar paintings, music, and more. Here are just a few of the Moon Festival activities and times worth exploring.

Chinese Mid-Autumn Lantern Festival

Head over to Bridgewater Commons Mall in Bridgewater, New Jersey, for the Chinese Mid-Autumn Lantern Festival. From September 10th through 18th, experience the traditional folk celebration of light. This festival is presented by the Center for Cultural & Creative Exchange in New Jersey and will feature an awesome display of 20 illuminated Chinese lanterns, all handmade, hanging throughout the Bridgewater Commons. There will additionally be live dance performances and lantern-making workshops all week long and absolutely free to all ages.

Moon Festival Celebration

Head over to The Shops at Skyview in Flushing, New York, on September 10th for the Moon Festival Celebration happening there. Beginning at 2:00 PM, a host of activities will kick off this free engagement.
