Brooklyn natives know. It’s that magical time of the year in New York City when the wildly popular Dyker Heights Christmas Festival comes to life. This elaborate display of holiday lights draws visitors from all over the City. And to make sure you know how to navigate for the best views with your loved ones, here are all the details to know about the Dyker Heights Christmas lights this season. You won't want to miss these elaborate displays, inspiring the holiday spirit in everyone who beholds them!

When to Plan Your Visit

The Dyker Heights Christmas displays begin to light up the evening skies the day after Thanksgiving. And you’ll have until New Year’s Eve to plan your visit to see them for yourself. The entire neighborhood, spanning several blocks, begins lighting up its displays around sunset every evening. Most lights remain illuminated until around 10:00 PM.

The Busiest Drive-Thru Times to Avoid

Historically, the heaviest congestion of traffic comes in the days closer to Christmas. And weekends tend to be the most popular days for weekend visitors. To experience the best views with the least traffic, it’s recommended you plan your visit a few weeks before Christmas. And weeknight viewers tend to have more freedom to enjoy the displays longer.

Prepare for the Experience

Load up the littles and all your favorite hot chocolate treats, and prepare for some dazzling neighborhood displays! There will be lights galore, of course, but also life-sized Santas, jolly snowmen, and some live caroling from the loudspeakers.

The light displays span from 11th to 13th Avenues, also called Dyker Heights Boulevard. And the lights are aglow from 83rd to 86th Streets in Dyker Heights, Brooklyn. Getting there could be a chore, especially if you’re visiting at more popular times. Here are some tips for planning your arrival:

By subway: Take the D to 79th Street and New Utrecht Avenue (15-minute walk from there)

By car: Parking can be downright lousy, so give yourself enough time to park.

By bus: There are bus tours available, including with A Slice of Brooklyn and others.

Don’t miss out on this New York event that draws in thousands every year! Make the Dyker Heights Christmas Lights one of your new holiday traditions you can enjoy with the whole family.
