This year marks the 22nd anniversary of 9/11. It was a day of immense loss for the city of New York. Every year since then, the people of NYC have come together to honor those lives that were lost and hold events of remembrance on this heavily emotional day. Firefighters, police officers, families of the victims, and the people of NYC commemorate this day by attending museum exhibits and memorial concerts. They also participate in tribute runs and vigils.
An annual event is held each year on the 9/11 Memorial Plaza to welcome the families of the victims to join together. A ceremony is held, and all the names of those lost are read aloud, a total of 2,983 names. This is followed by six moments of silence to mark when each tower was struck when each tower fell, the attack at the Pentagon, and the crash of the United Airlines Flight 93 in Pennsylvania.
