The 2022 TCS New York City Marathon

It’s that time of the year again. The 2022 TCS New York City Marathon is back. And it’s an exciting event for all who participate, support and spectate this remarkable event.

This year’s NYC Marathon is happening on November 6th, beginning at 8:00 AM. Here are the details for race day.

The NYC Marathon leads runners through all five boroughs of New York City, making it one of the city’s biggest running events. The starting line begins on the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge on Staten Island and directs runners through Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, and the Bronx, finally concluding in Central Park.

Prizes and Marathon Awards

There’s more than just a warm fuzzy feeling for runners who cross the finish line at the NYC Marathon. There are significant awards, medals, and monetary prizes for those runners who are eligible and finish among the top performers.

Eligibility Requirements for Open Division Prize Money: Participants must finish the course within a time of 3 Hours-10 Minutes or faster. 

  • First Place: $100K
  • Second Place: $60k
  • Third Place: $40k
  • Fourth Place: $25k
  • Fifth Place: $15k
  • Sixth Place: $10k
  • Seventh Place: $7,500
  • Eighth Place: $5k
  • Ninth Place: $2,500
  • Tenth Place: $2k

Only those athletes who are competing in the “Professional/Invited Athlete” will be eligible for Open Division prizes. And times are all based upon when official gun time starts.

Best Places to View the Race

NYRR suggests a few hotspots as the best places to view this marathon in person. These locations include:

  • Fourth Avenue, Brooklyn, at Miles 2 through 4
  • Fourth Avenue and Flatbush Avenue at Mile 8
  • Williamsburg and Greenpoint, Brooklyn, at Miles 10 through 13
  • Pulaski Bridge at Mile 13
  • First Avenue, Manhattan, at Mile 16
  • East Harlem at Miles 18 through 20
  • Charity Cheer Zone, First Avenue, and 120th Street at Mile 19
  • Fifth Avenue, East 90th Street at Mile 23
  • United Airlines Zone, Columbus Circle, Subway A, C, D, 1

Grandstand seating is available by ticket, and there will be standing spectator areas in Central Park, where the race finishes.
