The Rockefeller Center official Christmas Tree Lighting is one of the most anticipated events of the holiday season in New York City. This beloved tradition draws locals and tourists alike for a magical evening that’s sure to get everyone into the spirit of the season. It’s a festive celebration where thousands of people gather to watch the ceremony happen live. Whether you’re watching from the comfort of your own home or aiming for a front-row view at Rockefeller Center, we have all the tips and tricks to help you experience this unforgettable NYC tradition!

When and Where is The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting Happening in 2024?

This year’s Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony is (as always) happening at Rockefeller Center located at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, New York, NY.

The festivities are on Wednesday, December 4th, 2024, and will begin around 7:00 pm. The tree lighting will take place at precisely 9:57 pm EST.

Where is The 2024 Christmas Tree From?

The 2024 Christmas Tree is a Norway Spruce from the great state of Massachusetts, specifically West Stockbridge in the Southern Berkshires region.

The tree is over 80 feet tall and will be brilliantly crowned with a Swarovski crystal star designed by Daniel Libeskind. The star features over 3 million crystals and 70 glass spikes. Simply put, it’s absolutely stunning!

How Do I Secure a Great Viewing Spot at Rockefeller Center for the Tree Lighting?

Similar to some other high-profile NYC events, the best way to secure a viewing spot close to all the action is to arrive early. We recommend arriving well before noon to ensure you get a close spot. Dress warm, pack snacks and drinks, and plan to be standing for a while. It will be a long day, but we promise it will be worth it!

Will There Be Live Performances?

Yes! This year’s Christmas Tree Lighting will be hosted by Kelly Clarkson with special live performances by The Backstreet Boys, Jennifer Hudson, and Dan + Shay.

If I’m Unable to Attend The Tree Lighting, What Other Opportunities Are Available to See the Tree?

The Christmas Tree Lighting will be broadcast live on NBC and streaming on Peacock starting at 8:00 pm EST.

Additionally, the tree can be viewed through mid-January. It will be lit daily from 5:00 am to 9:00 pm, and on Christmas Eve, it will be lit for 24 hours. Get ready for your photo op to commemorate a visit to this magnificent holiday tree!
