What is New York Fashion Week?
New York Fashion Week is a semi-annual event held in various venues all over NYC where some of the world’s best and upcoming fashion designers can showcase their designs for the upcoming season. There is one fashion week in the spring season and one in the fall season.
How Did NYFW Get Its Start?
NYFW’s history began in 1943 during WWII. A fashion publicist named Elenor Lambert started what was then called “Press Week.” At that time, Paris, France, had really been the fashion hub of the world, but the war and its tragedies put all of that on hold. American designers were afforded an opportunity to establish and showcase their own designs to a bigger audience at home. Press Week was held at the Plaza Hotel, and it was exclusively for the press; buyers had to visit the designs separately. Homegrown American talent emerged over the next few decades, and America became the global fashion force that it is today.
What Can I Expect From NYFW in Fall of 2024?
Since its humble beginnings, NYFW has become a pinnacle of fashion, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. International fashion collections are shown to everyone, including buyers, the press, and the general public. They have a full schedule of runway shows, industry events, and designer presentations.
