It’s only fitting that 2024 is the ‘Year of the Dragon’, so it’s the perfect time to experience the cultural tradition that is NYC’s Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival. This year’s festivities will take place over two days at Meadow Lake in Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens. It’s the largest annual multicultural festival in all of NYC and one of the biggest dragon boat festivals in the U.S. The Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival is full of fun surprises, so mark your calendars for one of NYC’s premier events!

The Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival Connects History & Community

If you’ve never witnessed a dragon boat race before, it’s quite an experience! Each boat is colorfully decorated with a detailed and painted dragon head at the front and is powered by up to 20 members. Because the boats are so beautifully constructed, they look like pieces of art being raced across the water.

Beyond the boat races, attendees can get involved in a full schedule of events. There will be live musical performances, martial arts demonstrations, traditional arts & crafts, an international food court, and more!

The Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival is happening on August 3rd and 4th, 2024. It’s a free event and open to the public.
