Fifth Avenue Is Going Car-Free All Month Long!

November 28, 2023 Desiree Homer

Fifth Avenue is closing to car traffic for the second year in a row in an initiative meant to make shopping a breeze this holiday season. On select Sundays in December, pedestrians will have a full takeover of Fifth Avenue from 48th to 59th Streets, all without the worry of any cars in the area. This year, the car-free zone has extended a bit west to the areas around Rockefeller Center and Radio City Music Hall, making access to those special tourist attractions easier than ever!

What to Expect During the ‘Gift of Fifth’

When: December 3rd, 10th, and 17th from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Where: 48th to 59th Street on Fifth Avenue

This area will be completely closed to all car traffic during these times. It will alleviate the overcrowded sidewalks so pedestrians are able to spread out for a more enjoyable shopping experience. There will also be tasty goodies from food and drink vendors, along with various street performers, to make for an exciting day!
