What’s Happening for Labor Day in NYC? Everything!

Labor Day weekend is coming. Do you have any special plans to do something fun, relaxing, and enjoyable? If you don’t, you should. After all, as a New York event planner, you’re always planning others’ festivities. Take the time this holiday weekend to unwind and unplug for yourself. And there are more than plenty of things to do in New York City, large and small, action-packed and relaxing. Check out all the New York event calendars and keep reading for area hotspots and celebrations.

Labor Day NYC Parade

The NYC Labor Day Parade typically takes place the weekend after Labor Day. Get more information here, and start planning your best parade route view. The parade begins at 10:00 AM and kicks off from 44th Street and Fifth Avenue.

West Indian Parade

Every Labor Day, Brooklyn hosts the New York Caribbean Carnival Parade, also known as the West Indian Parade. It’s a closing event to the week-long celebration of the Caribbean culture, history, arts, and traditions.

Sporting Events

Tickets are selling fast for the US Open since Serena Williams announced her plans to retire after this championship. So, if you want to see one of the greatest female athletes of all time take her final bow, get your tickets soon!

If tennis isn’t your jam, you can always spend your Labor Day weekend at the ballpark instead. The New York Yankees face off with the Minnesota Twins for a September 5th through 8th series. Or, if you’d rather watch the New York Mets face the Dodgers on September 1st or the Nationals on September 2nd through 4th. Arts & Museums

If you’re looking for something more relaxing, educational, and artistic, head over to Greenwich Village. The Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit will be in full swing with tons of art displays, including paintings, sculptures, and original artist contributions. It’s free, too!

Military families are granted free admission for one more final weekend, over Labor Day weekend, of any museum admission across more than 40 New York City gardens and museum locations. Anyone considered active duty, National Guard, or Reserve military personnel and families all have free access to science centers, exhibits, and museums across the nation this holiday weekend.

The Metropolitan Opera’s ‘Summer HD Festival’ Is Free

Beginning August 26th and running through Labor Day, The Summer HD Festival returns for the 13th year. Enjoy ten performances from the Met’s Live in HD series and a special film screening to kick off the event. There are 3,000 available seats open each night, for free, with additional space on the plaza.

Richmond County Fair

If your idea of the perfect Labor Day weekend involves lemonade shake-ups, corn dogs, and carnival rides, head over to the Richmond County Fair in Staten Island to help celebrate 41 years of Labor Day fair fun! This is a holiday weekend experience the whole family can enjoy, with food, artists, vendors, and pie-eating contests, too!
