The Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest is an annual tradition and a highlight for many when it comes to the Fourth of July. This epic event has been around since 1972 when it started in Coney Island, New York City. It has since gained wide recognition and even gets coverage from ESPN.
The annual contest will take place, once again, on the corner of Surf and Stillwell Avenues in Coney Island, New York City.
Many people may not know that Major League Eating is sanctioned by the International Federation of Competitive Eating, making it an official and highly regarded competition.
Each year, contestants have just ten minutes to gobble up as many hot dogs as possible. In 2021, Joey Chestnut was able to put down 76 hot dogs, breaking his own personal world record. Michelle Lesco was last year’s female champion and will be going up against Miki Sudo, who once downed 48.5 hot dogs.
It is expected that close to 35,000 people will be in attendance and millions will be watching the ESPN telecast. The telecast will be running from 10:45 AM to 1:00 PM on July 4th, 2022.
