Brooklyn’s 156th Memorial Day Parade

Kick off your Memorial Day weekend celebration with the Memorial Day Parade! The parade is scheduled for Monday, May 29th, and will start at 11:00 AM. The anticipated route will be from 78th Street and Third Avenue to 101st Street and Fourth Avenue. After the parade, there will also be a 21-gun salute at Fort Hamilton, too. Start scouting your best parade views and bring the whole family!

Little Neck-Douglaston Memorial Day Parade

Loving New York says the Little Neck-Douglaston Memorial Day Parade is the largest nationwide. Little Neck is where the parade begins, and Douglaston is where it ends. On the last Monday in May, and across all five boroughs, this parade is another fan-favorite and must-experience celebration for Memorial Day weekend. Start plotting your best parade route views now and arrive early!

Fleet Week

Memorial Day weekend also means it’s Fleet Week, a traditional celebration that’s been taking place since 1982. The week-long celebration is hosted by the U.S. Marine Corps, Navy, and the Coast Guard every year. And it features active military ships in deployment that dock in major ports like NYC for one week. While the ships’ crews venture out into the city to celebrate, the ships are open to the public with guided tours. There are usually displays from the brilliant Blue Angels, too!

Hit the Beaches

Memorial Day marks the kickoff of summer, and that means the beaches are open! Plan a day trip to Coney Island or explore Brighton Beach for a more calming experience. Here are other beaches to consider adding to your holiday weekend festivities:

  • Hudson River Park Beach
  • Rockaway Beach
  • South Beach in Staten Island
  • Jones Beach
  • Long Beach
  • Fire Island Beach
  • The Hamptons
  • Orchard Beach

Whether you’re enjoying a relaxing day at home or are hosting backyard BBQ parties, add these festivities to your Memorial Day weekend celebrations! Relax, remember, and enjoy as you welcome the summer season.
