Holiday Nostalgia Train Rides

November 13, 2022 Desiree Homer

Between the Thanksgiving holiday and New Year’s Day celebrations, there are a wide variety of holiday-related celebrations and things to do in New York City. But one particular activity remains among the most popular for residents who know. There’s something magical about Christmas and trains that inspires childhood holiday memories for many. And the New York Transit Museum is continuing with its tradition of resurrecting vintage train cars to offer a unique holiday train ride experience. Book a seasonal nostalgia train ride this season! See New York City from a vintage and seasonally decorated train car!

The Nostalgia Rides

For these holiday rides and others throughout the year, the New York Transit Museum brings back nostalgia in a big way by resurrecting its fleet of 1930s R1-9 train cars and incorporating them into regular service. For Christmas, see the sights and sounds of NYC from a festive train car! Check out the website for more information. But you simply must see these vintage railcars for yourself and experience a festive tour through the City.

Departure and Route Details

To catch a ride on one of these vintage trains, you can get tickets online. For about the cost of a MetroCard swipe, you can travel back in time! These holiday train rides will depart on the F line from Second Avenue and run along Sixth Avenue to Rockefeller Center. From there, the train will make its way up toward Central Park West, stopping at 59th Street and Columbus Circle and finally coming to its last stop at 125th Street in Harlem.

When to Get in on the Holiday Train Rides

Get your calendars out and start planning your holiday rides this season. The special holiday train tours happen on Sundays, beginning after Thanksgiving:
