Manhattenhenge Is A Beautiful Sight That You Won't Want To Miss!

June 13, 2022 Jonny Hoffman

Manhattanhenge is a rare, astronomical occurrence that only happens twice a year. Basically, on these dates, the sun lines up with the grid of Manhattan, giving you a beautiful image that is certainly Instagram-worthy.

Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson brought a lot of attention to this phenomenon and he is also the one that gave it its signature name, Manhattanhenge. Since then, it has grown in popularity and several people will be gathering to view and take pictures.

The event will be taking place on Tuesday, July 12th, 2022. There are several places to observe Manhattanhenge including the east/west throughfaires at 14th Street, 23rd Street, 34th Street, 42nd Street, and 57th Street. It can also be viewed at Tudor City Overpass, Manhattan and Hunter’s Point South Park in Long Island City, Queens. The expected time is set to be at 8:21 pm ET.

In a city like New York, it is very rare to witness astronomical occurrences. This is a special occasion to view the city in a way that can only be seen twice a year. Impress your social media following by snapping the perfect photo of Manhattanhenge.

It is recommended to find a good spot early, because it is expected to have a lot of crowds trying to film and take photographs. For everyone who misses it, they will have to wait all the way until May 28th next year to see Manhattenhenge again!
